THE MARANGU EXPERIENCE

The Classic Route to Uhuru Peak

Marangu is the oldest and one of the most established routes on Mount Kilimanjaro, approaching the mountain from the southeast.

The route is popular because it is the only Kilimanjaro trail with permanent mountain huts instead of camping tents. The trail passes through rainforest, moorland and alpine desert before the summit ascent.

Marangu uses the same trail for ascent and descent, making the six-day acclimatization itinerary especially important for a considered summit attempt.
